Trivia Question❓What was Calgary’s original name? Answer at the bottom of the newsletter |
A new partnership between Tourism Calgary and WestJet is transforming layovers into mini-vacations with the launch of the Calgary Stopover Program. Eligible WestJet passengers can now extend their journey by spending up to seven days exploring Calgary at no extra airfare cost, while enjoying exclusive hotel deals and discounts at some of the city's top attractions.
With more than seven million international travellers passing through Calgary each year without ever leaving the airport, the program aims to showcase the city's vibrant food scene, beautiful scenery, and unique local experiences.
Initially targeting travellers from the U.K., this pilot initiative could bring new energy and economic benefits to Calgary businesses while introducing visitors to everything the city has to offer.
Could Calgary and NW Calgary become more than just a connection point and emerge as a destination in its own right? Discover how this innovative program works, what's included, and why local leaders believe it could change the way the world experiences our city. Catch more of what Kendall Collins has to say.

💡 Answer to Trivia Question: Originally established as Fort Brisebois in 1875, the North-West Mounted Police post was renamed Fort Calgary in 1876 to honor Macleod’s Scottish heritage.
The settlement dropped the "Fort" prefix when it was incorporated as a city in 1884.
While the area was traditionally known to the Blackfoot Confederacy as Mohkínstsis (meaning "elbow" or "elbow many houses" in reference to the Bow and Elbow Rivers), the Scottish name became the permanent official title. |
