A new partnership between Tourism Calgary and WestJet is transforming layovers into mini-vacations with the launch of the Calgary Stopover Program. Eligible WestJet passengers can now extend their journey by spending up to seven days exploring Calgary at no extra airfare cost, while enjoying exclusive hotel deals and discounts at some of the city's top attractions.

With more than seven million international travellers passing through Calgary each year without ever leaving the airport, the program aims to showcase the city's vibrant food scene, beautiful scenery, and unique local experiences.

Initially targeting travellers from the U.K., this pilot initiative could bring new energy and economic benefits to Calgary businesses while introducing visitors to everything the city has to offer.

Could Calgary and NW Calgary become more than just a connection point and emerge as a destination in its own right? Discover how this innovative program works, what's included, and why local leaders believe it could change the way the world experiences our city. Catch more of what Kendall Collins has to say.

"I Can't Do This Anymore": A NW Calgary Caregiver's Guide to Getting a Real Break (Without Guilt or Bankruptcy)

That heavy fog of exhaustion isn't just tiredness—it's caregiver burnout, and it's a warning sign you can't afford to ignore. You're managing medications, appointments, and personal care around the clock, and the idea of a break feels like a distant fantasy or a betrayal.

But what if you could have 4 hours to yourself next Tuesday? Or 5 days to visit family without worry? Respite care makes this possible, yet most Calgary caregivers hit a wall: confusing options, shocking costs, and bureaucratic waitlists.

Our latest guide is your lifeline. We cut through the chaos with a clear, actionable plan for Calgary families:

  • The REAL Cost Breakdown: What you'll actually pay for in-home help ($35-50/hr) vs. a short-term facility stay ($75-150+/day) in NW Calgary.
  • The "Must-Ask" Questions for agencies that separate the professionals from the risky (e.g., "Are your staff insured for Hoyer lifts?").
  • The Hidden Funding Source for veterans' spouses that few families know about (it can cover thousands in care costs).
  • Your 5-Step Action Plan: From calling AHS Home Care (811) today to booking your first guilt-free break.

This isn't about luxury; it's about sustainability. Click below to learn how to secure the support you need to be the caregiver you want to be—without sacrificing your own health in the process.

Stuck in Drafting? The APEGA "Black Box" is Costing You $50k+ a Year - NW Calgary

If you're an internationally educated engineer in Calgary, you already know the problem: your resume is stacked with global project experience, but you're stuck in a contract technologist role or facing endless rejections. The gatekeeper is APEGA's licensure process, and its complexity feels designed to keep you out.

The "Competency-Based Assessment" isn't just paperwork—it's a test of strategy. And the requirement for a "Canadian P.Eng. reference" isn't a dead end; it's a networking challenge with a clear solution.

Our latest guide cracks the code. We don't offer vague inspiration. We provide the tactical playbook:

  • The exact 3-phase timeline to plan your licensure journey without wasting months.
  • How to write your 66 competency statements so they pass on the first review (or close to it).
  • The proven method to find a Canadian P.Eng. mentor in Calgary, even with a brand-new network.
  • Why you must start your job search before you get the license, and how to position yourself to employers like Suncor or TC Energy.

Stop letting the process intimidate you. Your expertise is needed here. Click below to learn how to transition from "underemployed immigrant engineer" to "Professional Engineer in Alberta" and claim the career—and the salary—you trained for.

Is Your Child's School Mental Health Support Stuck in a Black Hole?

NW Calgary parents and teachers reveal why the system feels impossible to navigate—and what you can actually do about it

You’ve talked to the teacher. You’ve met the counselor. You’ve heard about “supports” and “plans,” but your child is still struggling. Why does accessing mental health help in NW Calgary schools feel like shouting into a void?

The truth is a clash of policy versus reality. Schools (CBE/CCSD) are bound by “Inclusive Education” mandates, AHS provides clinical care with long waits, and private help comes at a steep cost. Parents face a labyrinth of IEP processes that take months, while teachers juggle duty of care with overflowing classrooms and no clear roadmap for acute crises.

This isn’t just about frustration—it’s about specific, systemic gaps: the 8-16 week IEP wait, the $3,000 private assessment gamble, the “interim accommodation” loophole schools don’t mention, and the burnout of educators trying to bridge it all.

But what if you had a map? A detailed guide that doesn’t just list problems, but lays out the exact steps, terminology, and escalation paths used by parents and teachers who’ve navigated this successfully?

We break down the legal frameworks, decode the jargon (IEP vs. SSP, Zones of Regulation, Partner in Wellness), and provide the actionable strategies that move you from waiting to advocating. Learn how to secure immediate supports, build a data-driven case for your child, and understand the real roles of CBE, CCSD, and AHS. Stop navigating in the dark.

💡 Answer to Trivia Question:

Originally established as Fort Brisebois in 1875, the North-West Mounted Police post was renamed Fort Calgary in 1876 to honor Macleod’s Scottish heritage.

The settlement dropped the "Fort" prefix when it was incorporated as a city in 1884

While the area was traditionally known to the Blackfoot Confederacy as Mohkínstsis (meaning "elbow" or "elbow many houses" in reference to the Bow and Elbow Rivers), the Scottish name became the permanent official title.
