The NW Calgary Conversation That Changed Everything

Last month, I spoke with a daughter in Tuscany who was struggling with a decision her parents never imagined they'd face. Her father had been diagnosed with early-stage dementia. She was working full-time, living ten minutes away, and doing her best to be there every evening. But then came the 2 AM phone call—his conviction that someone was in the house. The week after, the stove was left on again.

She knew she needed help. But here's what kept her awake at night: How do you know which questions to ask before you've already committed?

She'd researched agencies online. Some promised dementia-specific training. Others highlighted flexible scheduling. But none of it told her what happens when the caregiver shows up late, or when a crisis occurs at midnight, or when cultural expectations don't align with service delivery.

This is exactly why we created our new guide.

We realized families in NW Calgary—Arbour Lake, Silver Springs, Arbour Lake, Tuscany, and beyond—deserve more than marketing promises. They deserve a respectful framework to understand their options, weigh DIY care against professional services, and ask the right questions before signing anything.

Inside this guide, you'll find:

  • 7 critical questions to ask any provider (with sources explaining why each matters)
  •
  • A decision framework comparing DIY vs. Professional care paths
  •
  • Transparent cost breakdowns with funding options through Alberta Health Services
  •
  • Community-reported concerns from Calgary caregivers (no fabrication, just honesty)
  •

This isn't about pushing you toward hiring anyone. It's about giving you enough information to choose what works for your family—whether that's full DIY care, professional support, or a hybrid approach.

No business endorsements. No fabricated testimonials. Just transparent, ethical guidance from neighbors who understand the stakes.

đź’ˇ Answer to Trivia Question:
Many say that it is because of the almost perfect replica of a human nose. Take a look at the image at the top of the newsletter. However, there are other answers for Indigenous and Local Foklore: Oral tradition and local folklore also connect the hill to regional history. • • One traditional story tells of a Blackfoot woman punished for an offense by having her nose cut off and cast upon the ground at the site, tying the land's name to the tragic legend. • • The area has long been a culturally significant and sacred place for local First Nations peoples.
